About my artwork

My designs are digital abstracts based on “fractal flames,” a mathematical construct capable of creating great complexity from relatively simple equations. The process of creating them involves a collaboration between me and a
computer program. While I control the various parameters, the computer does the number crunchingapo7xl-130711-110 and the results have a component of spontaneity and unpredictability. Playing with the various views, adjusting color palettes and other visual parameters creates the final image. Because much of what we see in the world is fractal, these designs can be eerily suggestive of natural phenomena. I’m particularly excited by the organic images that come out of this mathematical process–the texture and transparent effects pull the eye into the image; the form has movement, producing swirling fireworks and explosions of color.

These digital images can be printed on various substrates – paper, fabric, canvas, vinyl.  I then can frame or mount the images.  I also have made scarves and other garments.  I can bond the printed images to a more solid surface using découpage techniques.
